When Self-Doubt Creeps In: Making Space to Rebuild Confidence

A gentle reflection on self-doubt, uncertainty, and finding your way back
I haven’t blogged on here for quite some time, partly due to not having the time but I’ve realised I had become uncertain what to say. A little confidence dip where I was unsure that I could offer anything interesting or thought provoking. Then I’ve realised that this probably happens to everyone at some point in different areas of their lives or career.
Are Confidence Dips Normal?
Dips in confidence and self-esteem, sometimes feeling a little lost, uncertainty of the direction our lives are going in or what role we play in life. Do you recognise any of these? These are all feelings and thoughts that are perfectly normal and valid. Relationships, work, experiences and life pressures can all impact how we feel about ourselves, our value and self worth, how confident we feel, whether we feel the need to hide or avoid things or if we have the resources to cope and face the world.
How Taking a Step Back Can Help
For me, stepping back and taking the time to reassess what I wanted to do is how I found my way back to feeling more able to put pen to paper (literally) and blog again. Giving myself permission to just not do this for a while and recognise that it was ok really helped. Anyone else in this situation may have other ways to help them work through these dips such as talking with friends, taking a break, journaling, self care techniques and hobbies. Some people choose counselling to give themselves the space and non judgemental ear to talk through issues, reassess life and find a happier, more confident self. If you resonate with any of this and feel therapy can help, feel free to reach out and ask about my availability.
