1st March: Self-Injury Awareness Day

Today, 1st March, is globally recognised as Self-Injury Awareness Day (SIAD). I have blogged about self-injury before but in support of SIAD, I wanted to highlight the topic again.

 

Raising awareness is vital, not only to reach out to those who do self-injure, but to educate those who don't. It can be baffling and confusing to discover a loved one or friend is self-injuring but if awareness is increased this can lead to better understanding and less judgement, enabling those who do to be more open about their self-injury, not continue to suffer in silence and hopefully reach out for help.
